Too much email? You will love Sanebox

Email is one of the most broken, and yet critically important components of our lives. Email is also a slow evolving tool. Hotmail is more than 15 years old, and yet email is roughly what it once was. Gmail’s priority inbox, and its offering of huge quantities of storage were big steps, but hardly revolutionary moves.
There exists a plethora of tools in the market to help email become more manageable, and many are useful. I have recently been using a service called SaneBox that is, in my view, one of the best. Let’s get into what it does, and how it works.

Mechanics

SaneBox is essentially a massive filter, one that runs defense for your inbox. The service creates a separate folder in your email account. Email comes in, and SaneBox decides if it goes into the boo-boo bin, the folder, or if it stays in your inbox. You can check the filtered emails any time you want by going into the folder, and browsing. They aren’t deleted.
Now, what happens is that, all of a sudden, your inbox becomes much quieter. It begins to feel like you don’t have any friends any more, it’s so eerily shushed.
How does SaneBox know which emails to filter out, and which to keep? First, SaneBox will scan every email in your entire account. That takes some time. For me, I think it took over an hour. There were about 200,000 emails to churn through, or so. Might have been less. Following, you link up your social networks, allowing SaneBox to draw relationships between people. And, the service can be explicitly told, ‘no, I want that one and all like it my normal inbox.’
Training doesn’t take long. For fun, this is how SaneBox describes its process:
2012 06 14 14h33 25 Email tool SaneBox is amazing, and worth every penny it costs

Effect

SaneBox is quite effective about cutting out email that you didn’t really want in the first place. It does lead to a much better email experience. The largest fear, I think, in using such a service, however, is that you might miss an important email. To combat that, the service sends you regular digests (you can pick their frequency) of email that was placed in the bad-kids-folder. An email of your email, if you will.
For the regular person looking to cut down on their email problem, SaneBox is well worth using. And it only costs $5 a month, so everyone can afford it.
However, I have to say goodbye to the service, due to my job, oddly enough. This is going to sound strange, but I essentially need to have an inbox problem. My inbox has to be a bazaar of sorts, which notes from all types of people, about all sorts of things, and at all times. I need to see every message as it comes in. Now, I don’t read the vast majority of it, but since I work in news, I can’t afford to be more than a minute late to any note that matters.
There is no pattern for SaneBox to follow to dictate which message likely from a crazy, is in this one circumstance critical breaking news. You can’t train that, I don’t think, as curation of this sort is part of my job. For example, whilst defending my Gmail account from Groupon updates and bad PR flacks, SaneBox noticed that I had received a very vague email from Microsoft. It wasn’t from an account that you hear from often, I’ve never responded to it (it’s not a person), and so forth. SaneBox put it in the side folder. That email was an invitation to a very special event that’s happening next week.
I would have seen it later on a check run through the side box, but I can’t wait to do that – I need it in my face as now.
It’s annoying that I won’t get to use SaneBox, because it really has made a very nice change to my email life. Before, chaos. Now, calm. If I was in any other profession, I’d throw cash at them.

Recommendation

If you get more than 50 emails a day or more, and if not well-played, I’d try SaneBox. It has a free week trial, so you aren’t at risk for anything. By day two, you’ll be a new person.

Patented Google Chrome OS

After several missed a patent on the Android operating system, now I do not want cheated with its other operating system, Chrome OS. Google reportedly has patented cloud-based operating system Chrome OS.

Pat the fuss Apple and Samsung largely because of software problems, it makes Android and Google does not want to risk this happening to its flagship cloud-based operating system, Chrome OS.

Cloud-based operating system that is usually embedded in the Chrome Book has been patented by Google. Chrome OS patent covers the entire system including the operating system in the cloud clients.

As reported from TomsHardware (02/09/2012), Google filed a patent titled Network based operating system across devices or network-based operating systems have been proposed traffic devices since March 2009.

Chrome OS patent covers everything that encompasses all aspects of the operating system, including the use of cloud-based Chrome OS on the client, web browser used bahwkan into an entity that will continue to be updated regularly.

Google itself is not a company that is free from patent conflicts, the search engine giant has been in conflict with Oracle's Java patents in the Android operating system, not to mention the position also in danger of attack Android Apple patents.

As the saying goes 'ready umbrella before it rains' before it gets worse, I take a few steps to acquire Motorola for patents that are owned and patented Chrome OS in order to avoid problems in the future.

In the meantime, the Chrome Book that carries a cloud-based operating system Chrome OS itself considered less success in the market since the internet connection is fast and stable became a mandatory requirement to enjoy the Chrome OS.

How to Get the Outlook.com Email Address You Want

outlook-logo-600

Microsoft just completely overhauled Hotmail, rebranding it as Outlook and moving the whole email service to Outlook.com. The app is actually much improved, but longtime Hotmail users will probably have tons of questions — the most important being: What’s my email address now?

It’s the same as it ever was — if your address was “my.email@hotmail.com,” you’ll still receive email there for as long as you want, all accessible at Outlook.com (and Hotmail.com for a time).

But now that Outlook.com is live, you’ll probably want that same address in the Outlook.com domain — i.e. my.email@outlook.com. You might think that Microsoft would automatically reserve that address for you, but it doesn’t. You have to do that yourself. Follow the gallery above for step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

Microsoft says you can select just five Outlook aliases a year (an anti-spam and anti-hoarding restriction), so choose wisely. And be quick! Get the Outlook email address you want before someone else does.

What do you think of how Microsoft is handling Outlook email addresses? Sound off in the comments.

Google Translate Adds More Photo Support, Faster Results

Traveling to a foreign country is always exciting, but it can be a bit intimidating if you don’t understand the language. Your smartphone and Google Translate can make it easier, though.
Google updated its Translate for Android app today, bringing, among other things, the ability to interpret text from a picture. Now, you can take a photo of some text — a restaurant menu, for example — and highlight the part you want translated by the app.
Google Translate doesn’t automatically detect the language based on the picture, so you’ll have to enter that manually. Also, the feature works only on smartphones running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or higher.
In addition to the photo support, the app now provides translation results as soon as you start typing and adds dialect preferences for voice searches.
Google Translate is available now for free through the Google Play store.

Supercomputer called SuperMUC was built by ' the big blue ' IBM x 86 based supercomputer is the fastest in Europe and the number four in the world's fastest.

As reported by from ArsTechnica (27/07/2012), sophisticated supercomputers from Germany used the operating system SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) which is a Linux distro from Germany which has now been acquired by Novell.

The specification is quite amazing supercomputer SuperMUC. SuperMUC powered by Intel Xeon processors 18.432 E5-2281 8-core with 2 speed, 7GHz, for a total amount of core or core processing in the SuperMUC reach 147.456 core and memory of 324 terabyte supported as well as capable of producing up to 3 petaflop performance.

SUSE party said that supercomputer SuperMUC comes a unique cooling system which inspired ileh human blood circulation which is capable of significantly reducing heat and power consumption. Supercomputers consume power until SuperMUC alone 3422.67 kilowatts.

Use operating system SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is due to Linux from Germany has a strong influence in Europe and also has strong ties with the scientific community of Europe so that proximity to SUSE makes it easy to collaborate.

"Since 1998, we have been relying on SUSE for sector performance of our computers in the LRZ. At that time, it is important for us because it provides the technical features of SUSE not included in other GNU/Linux distributions. "

"But what is also important is around geographically, direct connection to the development team and product management in SUSE and quick support response time. It still is a huge benefit for us and why all our high-performance computers and most other systems running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, "said Dr. Arndt Bode, head LRZ researcher.

Operating system SUSE Linux Enterprise Server runs on one-third of the top 25 supercomputers in the world.

Intel’s Earnings Warning is an Ominous Sign for the Tech Sector

Citing the weak global economy, Intel, the world’s largest microchip-maker, lowered its financial forecast for the rest of 2012. It’s an ominous sign for the technology sector, which is entering the heart of earnings season. Reporting second-quarter financial results, the closely-watched tech bellwether (INTC) revised its revenue growth projection downward to between 3% and 5% — below the previous forecast of “high single-digit growth.”
As policymakers seek to return America to healthy growth and employment, Intel’s lowered outlook is a clear reminder that the global economy — and Europe in particular — is placing a drag on the U.S. economy. Tech stalwarts like Apple, Google, IBM, Intel, and Microsoft have been powering through the recession. If these companies falter, the U.S. is in trouble.
“As we enter the third quarter, our growth will be slower than we anticipated due to a more challenging macroeconomic environment,” Intel CEO Paul Otellini said in a statement. Or, as Quentin Hardy of The New York Times put it: “The world’s largest semiconductor maker is getting pounded by poor consumer demand.”
Simply stated, the global economy isn’t growing fast enough. We’re starting to see the impact on U.S. corporate earnings. Intel is a key signal, not only for the tech industry, but also for the broader economy. Intel’s reduced forecast bodes ill for the entire tech supply chain and the broader U.S. and global economies. We need high-tech companies to be buying more microchips, not fewer.
Meanwhile, struggling tech giant Yahoo reported in-line-to-positive earnings, which heightened chatter about the company’s blockbuster new hire: Google star Marissa Mayer. On a conference call with Wall Street analysts, Yahoo! CFO Tim Morse said he hadn’t even had the chance to discuss the company’s earnings forecast with his new boss.
On Monday, Yahoo appointed Mayer as CEO; she was not on the conference call. Mayer was Google’s 2oth employee and is a 37-year-old self-proclaimed “geek.” Several years ago, she informed a reporter that she was one billion seconds old (31.7 years). She’s now one of the most famous corporate executives in the world. On Monday, Mayer revealed to Fortune that she is pregnant with her first child, due on October 7.
“In the second quarter, non-GAAP earnings per share exceeded consensus and both display and search revenue ex-TAC showed modest growth,” Yahoo!’s chief financial officer Tim Morse, said in a statement. “We also moved aggressively with new strategic agreements with Alibaba and Facebook and announced several new partnerships including CNBC, Clear Channel and Spotify.”
Hardy, at The Times, sketches out a sampling of Mayer’s challenges:
Facebook commands 16.8 percent of the online display ad market in the United States and Google is at 16.5 percent, while Yahoo’s share has fallen to 9.1 percent — a drop from 2008, when Yahoo had 18.4 percent of the market and Facebook earned just 2.9 percent a share — according to eMarketer.
Yahoo has also lost its command of the overall online advertising market, where it held 15.7 percent share in 2009. Last year, Yahoo’s share fell to 9.5 percent and, according to eMarketer, its share will fall further to 7.4 percent this year, even as online advertising spending in the United States is expected to grow 23.3 percent, to $39.5 billion.
The downfall of Yahoo’s search business has been even worse. It turned over its search business to Microsoft and now holds 6.7 percent of the $15.36 billion search ad market last year. Google, meanwhile, continues its reign with 75.9 percent of all search ad revenues.
And Yahoo has yet to dip a toe in mobile advertising. Should it introduce new mobile products under Ms. Mayer, Yahoo will again face a market dominated by Google. According to eMarketer, Google held 51.7 percent of the $1.45 billion in total mobile advertising spending in the United States last year.

Facebook Testing Pay-Based Status Update Promotion Tool

Facebook Testing Pay-Based Status Update Promotion Tool
Members of one of the Internet’s most popular social media websites may soon be able to pay in order to have their status updates more visible to their fellow users, Stuff’s Tom Pullar-Strecker wrote on Friday.
According to Pullar-Strecker, Facebook is currently test-marketing a feature that would allow subscribers to spend $2 in order to “Highlight” important posts that will make the content featured more prominently across the social network. He said that the program was accidentally discovered by a Facebook user who initially believed that it might be a scam, but a Facebook executive confirmed its validity to Stuff.

“We’re constantly testing new features across the site. This particular test is simply to gauge people’s interest in this method of sharing with their friends,” spokeswoman Mia Garlick told Pullar-Strecker. She added that they were also experimenting with various prices for the service, meaning that during the trial, users could be asked to pay any amount of money in order to take advantage of the promotion.

Josh Constine of TechCrunch said that the move demonstrates Facebook’s willingness to be more proactive in terms of brining in additional income, which should certainly attract the attention of potential investors. However, he added that the company “is playing with fire here,” potentially rubbing subscribers the wrong way by making some features of the website pay-to-use for the first time, especially to “younger and less financially equipped users who couldn’t afford such narcissism.”

In an update to his original report, the TechCrunch writer elaborated on his position.
“I understand what Facebook was going for with this. Sometimes you have a post you really need people to see, like ‘I need a kidney donor’, ‘I’m renting out my apartment’, or ‘I’m moving to New York, come say goodbye tonight.’” Constine said. “If Facebook wants to give people the option to boost the visibility of the occasional post, it should let people Highlight one post a month, or apply some other frequency cap. But if people can pay to Highlight posts as often as they want, it could do more harm than good.”

“The problem is the potential for Highlighted updates to reduce the general relevance of the news feed,” he added. “Facebook’s news feed sorting algorithm is designed to show you posts by your closest friends or that have received a lot of Likes and comments. Highlight distorts this, and will encourage news feed spamming club promoters, musicians, small businesses, or anyone else with something to gain from more clicks.”
Likewise, Gizmodo reporter Jamie Condliffe wrote, “Whether Highlight will ever turn into a fully-blown feature is difficult to tell. Given how much people enjoy talking about themselves, it’s certainly not impossible to imagine that the feature could generate a steady trickle of cash for the Big Blue. It’s even easier, however, to imagine how irritating it could become.”
